The laser hair removal process
If you are looking for permanent, virtually painless laser hair removal, book a free consultation and patch test at one of our central London clinics.
One of our highly trained, experienced team of laser hair removal specialists will explain the treatment in detail, answer any questions you may have about the laser hair removal treatment, patch test the areas you would like to treat and provide you with a personalised treatment plan including preparation and aftercare instructions. The first treatment can then take place a minimum of 48 hours later.
You will need to smoothly shave a patch of each different body area you would like to treat around 8 hours prior to the patch test appointment and smoothly shave all the areas to be treated around 8 hours prior to each follow up appointment.
A course of 6 treatments is recommended which will be spaced every 4 weeks for the face and 6 weeks for the body initially. Later in your course treatments may be more widely spaced as hair growth slows down significantly.
At Mayfair Aesthetic, we exclusively use the multi-award winning, market leading Soprano Platinum and Titanium laser hair removal systems. Treatments with these sytems are virtually pain free and suitable for all skin types, even tanned skin. They employ all 3 laser wavelengths during every treatment – Alex, Diode and Yag, this means the light energy penetrates to different depths within the skin damaging different parts of the hair follicle which is more effective than single wavelength laser hair removal systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Soprano Ice Platinum & Titanium hair removal systems are virtually pain-free. During treatment, you may experience a gentle warming sensation in the area being treated with some clients feeling a mild pins and needles sensation.
Is a patch test necessary?
Yes. Even if you have had laser hair removal elsewhere, it is 100% necessary to patch test before a laser hair removal treatment. The procedure allows us to check that your skin is suitable for laser hair removal and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
To ensure no adverse reactions occur, general inspection of your skin will take place and then a small patch of each body area you would like to treat will be exposed to the laser light. This provides us with the opportunity to tailor the machine’s settings to your skin type, and ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible.
Am I suitable for laser hair removal?
Soprano Ice Platinum & Titanium systems are suitable for all skin tones. They emit 3 different laser light wavelengths which means they target the widest possible range of hair colours and densities. As lasers target the brown melanin pigment within hair, ginger, pale blonde, white or grey hair will not be affected by laser hair removal treatments. Various medications and medical conditions are a barrier to treatment. Prior to your first appointment you will be sent a medical form to complete. This will be checked the day prior to your appointment and potentially save a wasted journey if there are any concerns.
We can only treat clients who are aged 18 and over.
How often will I need a laser treatment?
A minimum of 6 to 8 treatments are recommended to achieve optimum results with some stronger hair growth areas such as the face and private area possibly needing more treatments.
Facial laser hair treatments should be every 4 weeks for the first 4 treatments then every 4-6 weeks thereafter. Body laser hair removal treatments are performed every 6 weeks for the first 4 treatments then every 6-8 weeks after that.
Are credit options available?
Yes, depending on the package purchased, we can split your payments into 2, 3 or 4 pre-paid, 0% interest instalments. Speak to our team for more details.
Is it safe?
The Soprano Ice Platinum & Titanium systems are some of the safest lasers on the market. Rather than delivering all the laser energy in individual high energy, painful shots offered by traditional laser systems, the applicator is passed back and forth over the area to be treated as it flashes on and off 10 times a second at a lower energy.
This allows the necessary heat to build up over a few seconds which when compared to traditional shots based systems, is virtually pain free. After treatment in rare cases, you may experience mild redness or slight sensitivity. Aloe Vera gel is excellent to calm and soothe the skin.
How should I prepare before a treatment?
Apart from shaving, avoid any other hair removal methods such as waxing, threading or hair removal creams for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment, the hair needs to be present to be affected by the laser, if hair has been pulled out, the laser will have nothing to affect.
Avoid sun exposure for 1 week and sunbeds or any kind of fake tan for 2 weeks prior to treatment. You should thoroughly shave areas to be treated or patch tested around 8 hours before your visit. Skin must be hair and stubble free for the laser to be operated safely.
What about aftercare?
For 48 hours after the laser treatment avoid any additional heat such as hot baths or showers, saunas, steam rooms or vigorous exercise. Avoid sun exposure for 1 week after treatment and avoid sunbeds throughout your treatment course. Avoid swimming for about 48 hours as the chemicals in the water may cause skin irritation.
What is The Difference Between Soprano Ice Platinum & Titanium?
Both systems use all 3 laser wavelength simultaneously – Yag, Alex and Diode/Speed. Results are identical with both systems. The Titanium system has an improved skin cooling system and an additional larger treatment hand-piece which makes appointment times faster when treating larger body areas such as arms, legs, abdomen and back.
At Mayfair Aesthetics, we often see clients that have visited other clinics who tell us that their appointments were extremely fast (often less than 1 hour for a full body appointment). If the treatment is rushed or not performed correctly it will be less effective or ineffective. At Mayfair Aesthetics we ensure each treatment is carried out perfectly to ensure you get the best results possible.
